Shankar Group says Hilton Hotel blaze turned dreams to ashes
In a statement issued today, the company said, “Several businesses became targets of arson, vandalism, and looting during this movement. Our recently opened Hilton Hotel, a project we proudly promoted, was also caught in the crossfire.”
KATHMANDU: Shankar Group has expressed deep sorrow, saying that the recent fire at the newly launched Hilton Hotel during the Gen Z protests has reduced the company’s years of hard work and dreams to ashes.
In a statement issued today, the company said, “Several businesses became targets of arson, vandalism, and looting during this movement. Our recently opened Hilton Hotel, a project we proudly promoted, was also caught in the crossfire.”
The Group questioned, “Was it our mistake to take such a big risk by investing in Nepal?” adding that the loss of this iconic property has left the company devastated.
The statement also clarified that Shankar Group has no political or institutional ties with Sudhan Gurung, one of the leaders of the Gen Z movement, or his group.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, we came to know Gurung and his ‘Hami Nepal’ organization while supporting relief efforts for affected communities. Beyond that, we have had no collaboration with him or the institution,” the Group explained.
Despite the incident, Shankar Group vowed to recover and rebuild, stating that it will rise again and restart its business with renewed determination.
