KATHMANDU: The government has decided to establish dedicated service desks at the arrival and departure halls of Tribhuvan International Airport for Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) and foreign citizens of Nepali origin.

According to the Department of Immigration, the move aims to strengthen emotional, cultural, and linguistic ties between Nepal and the global Nepali diaspora, while also promoting tourism and investment in the country.

The department on Sunday formally instructed the airport office to arrange separate desks in both arrival and departure sections to facilitate smoother services for this group of travelers.

The decision follows long-standing advocacy by the Association of Nepali Origin, which has repeatedly urged the government to recognize and ease travel experiences for people of Nepali heritage worldwide.

The organization has welcomed the move.

In a statement issued by its president Dilli Adhikari, the decision was described as a step that makes people of Nepali origin around the world feel respected and acknowledged.

“The implementation of this decision will significantly help reconnect Nepali identity and sentiment with the homeland,” the statement read, expressing confidence that it will deepen engagement between Nepal and its diaspora.
