KATHMANDU: Former Madhesh Province Chief Minister Satish Singh has resigned from his position as a provincial assembly member and also quit as an ordinary member of the Janamat Party.

“Today, I have formally resigned from the provincial assembly and have also relinquished my membership in the Janamat Party,” Singh said.

Singh has already registered a new political party for the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

The party, named Swabhimaan Party, is led by his elder brother, Satyawan Kumar Singh, and Singh is preparing to contest the elections under its banner.

In the 2022 provincial elections, Singh was elected to the Madhesh Provincial Assembly from Saptari-2 (K) as a Janamat Party candidate. During his tenure, he served as the chair of the Provincial Assembly Finance Committee and later as Chief Minister of Madhesh Province.

His resignation follows controversy during the Gen Z movement, when, following directives from Janamat Party Chair Dr. CK Raut, Singh briefly announced his resignation via Facebook.

After retracting his statement, the party withdrew support, creating tension within the party.

Singh previously served as chairperson of Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality from 2074 to 2079.

The 43-year-old is a permanent resident of Tilathi-4, Saptari.
