KATHMANDU: A ride-sharing platform funded by Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) based in the United States is preparing to formally launch its services in Nepal, marking an ambitious entry into the country’s growing digital transport sector.

SafeRide has announced that its first operational phase will begin in Dang district, with services expected to roll out initially in Ghorahi, Tulsipur, Lamahi, and Bhalubang.

The platform will offer motorcycle taxis, auto-rickshaws, cars, and bicycle ride options in the early stage.

According to founder and Chief Executive Officer D.B. Rawat, Dang has been chosen as the launch point as it is his hometown, making it a symbolic starting ground for the service.

Expansion Strategy Across Nepal

The company plans to gradually expand services across the Rapti region and other hill districts before entering major urban centers such as Kathmandu. Officials say the strategy prioritizes nationwide coverage outside the capital first, aiming to strengthen rural and semi-urban connectivity.

SafeRide also plans to introduce its mobile application soon, which will enable users to access safe, affordable, and faster transport services across Nepal.

Job Creation and Investment Goals

The platform has set an ambitious target of creating around 100,000 self-employment opportunities within a year. The company says revenue generated from operations will be reinvested in Nepal to support economic development, job creation, and expansion of local services.

Founder Rawat emphasized that if Nepalis and NRNs worldwide invest in their hometowns, Nepal’s development could accelerate significantly. The company’s guiding slogan, “We build our place,” reflects this vision.

Competing with Global Platforms

SafeRide says its operational model differs from global ride-sharing companies such as Pathao, Indrive, Yango, and Uber. While those platforms primarily focus on profit generation, SafeRide claims its priority is domestic investment, employment creation, and reinvestment within Nepal’s economy.

Leadership and Recruitment Drive

The company has also opened applications for the position of Managing Director, inviting interested candidates to apply through its official Facebook page. Applicants can submit resumes along with expected salary and benefits, with shortlisted candidates to be called for interviews.

Technology and Safety Features

SafeRide says its platform will integrate advanced ride-sharing technologies, including real-time ride requests, GPS tracking, emergency assistance buttons, fare estimation systems, digital wallet and mobile payment options, and insurance coverage for users.

Additional features include ride history tracking, rating and review systems, customer support services, automated nearby driver matching, low-internet compatibility, digital mapping, and distance-based fare safety mechanisms.

The company adds that these features are designed to enhance passenger and driver safety while improving efficiency and transparency in transport services.
