RSP to hold first district conventions in 28 districts today
The party had already successfully concluded conventions in 38 districts on Saturday.
KATHMANDU: The ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is conducting its first district-level conventions in 28 districts today as part of its nationwide organizational expansion ahead of its inaugural national general convention.
According to Bhuwan K.C., Chief of the party’s Central Election Commission, the conventions are being held across four districts in Koshi Province, four in Madhesh, two in Bagmati, four in Gandaki, five in Lumbini, six in Karnali, and five in Sudurpaschim Province.
The districts where conventions are taking place include Udayapur, Solukhumbu, Khotang, Ilam, Siraha, Dhanusha, Parsa, Sarlahi, Chitwan, Dolakha, Tanahun, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), Gorkha, Lamjung, Arghakhanchi, Rupandehi, Pyuthan, Surkhet, Jajarkot, Dailekh, Rukum (West), Mugu, Jumla, Achham, Doti, Kailali, Kanchanpur, and Bajura.
Chief K.C. said that each district has been assigned a three-member election committee to ensure a fair, impartial, and orderly electoral process. The party had already successfully concluded conventions in 38 districts on Saturday.
Earlier, conventions were completed in districts including Jhapa, Morang, Tehrathum, Taplejung, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Okhaldhunga, Sunsari, Mahottari, Rautahat, Dolakha, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Nuwakot, Dhading, Makwanpur, Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchowk, and Sindhuli.
Similarly, leadership selections have already been completed in Syangja, Kaski, Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Gulmi, Nawalparasi, Palpa, Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Rolpa, Kalikot, Salyan, Baitadi, Baitadi, Bajhang, and Darchula following district conventions.
The Election Commission stated that these conventions are a crucial step in transforming the party from an interim structure into a fully democratic and people-mandated organization. It has urged all stakeholders to ensure that the internal democratic process is conducted in a fair, peaceful, and transparent manner.
Due to special organizational circumstances, the Bara district convention will be held on June 9. The party aims to complete conventions in 67 out of 77 districts before its first national general convention.
The remaining 10 districts will hold their conventions after the national convention. Meanwhile, provincial conventions will begin on Jestha 26, with five-member provincial election committees formed in all seven provinces.
RSP’s first national general convention is scheduled to take place in Chitwan from June 21 to 23.
