RSP finalizes candidates for Gulmi-1 & 2
Devraj Pandey, RSP’s Gulmi deputy secretary and spokesperson, confirmed that both constituencies now have nominated candidates moving forward for official endorsement.
KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has finalized its candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections in Gulmi-1 and Gulmi-2 constituencies.
Devraj Pandey, RSP’s Gulmi deputy secretary and spokesperson, confirmed that both constituencies now have nominated candidates moving forward for official endorsement.
In Gulmi-1, Sagar Dhakal will contest the elections on behalf of RSP.
Dhakal, who previously gained attention as an independent candidate in Dadeldhura against the then-Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba, is now entering the political fray from Gulmi-1.
In Gulmi-2, RSP has fielded Govinda Panthi, a new face in politics. Panthi is a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and a practicing lawyer.
Other major parties have also announced their candidates.
Pradeep Gyawali will represent CPN-UML in Gulmi-1, while Dr. Chandra Bhandari is expected to contest for Nepali Congress, although the party’s final decision is still pending. In Gulmi-2, UML has nominated Gokarna Bista, and CPN has fielded Shriram Mahat.
Nepali Congress has yet to finalize its candidate, despite recommendations including Lumbini Province Vice-Chairperson Bhuwan Prasad Shrestha.
Gulmi-1 has 122,186 registered voters, while Gulmi-2 has 107,363. In the previous elections, Nepali Congress won in Gulmi-1, and CPN-UML in Gulmi-2.
