RSP Chief warns constitution amendment debate not moving in right direction
He criticized the debate on amendments, stating that instead of advancing the constitution, it is being used as a pretext to roll back progress.
KATHMANDU: Santosh Pariyar, Chief Spokesperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has expressed concern that the ongoing debate on constitutional amendments is not progressing in the right direction.
Speaking at an interaction program titled “Ten Years of Constitutional Implementation: Achievements, Challenges, and Suggestions” held in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Pariyar said that while the current constitution is comparatively progressive, it has faced resistance from interest groups seeking to maintain continuous dominance in the power structure.
He criticized the debate on amendments, stating that instead of advancing the constitution, it is being used as a pretext to roll back progress.
Pariyar emphasized the need for vigilance regarding these developments.
Accusing political parties of failing to implement the constitution, he warned that leaders’ disregard for constitutional provisions has fueled a conspiracy to shape the constitution according to party interests rather than national priorities.
Pariyar also highlighted that the proportional representation system mandated by the constitution has not been effectively implemented by political parties.
