Ramechhap bus accident update: 10 of 12 dead identified

KATHMANDU: Ten of the 12 people who lost their lives in a bus accident near Manthali, the district headquarters of Ramechhap, have been identified.

According to Dr. Keshav Singh Dhami, Medical Superintendent at Manthali Hospital, 10 of the deceased have been identified.

They include:

  • Bhim Bahadur Tamang, 38, Likhu Tamakoshi–7

  • Sanumaya Tamang, 35, Likhu Tamakoshi–7

  • Ramita Tamang, 26, Likhu Tamakoshi–7

  • Tara Tamang, 31, Likhu Tamakoshi–7

  • Babi Tamang, 22, Likhu Tamakoshi–4

  • Dipendra Basnet, 26, Likhu Tamakoshi–4

  • Dipesh Basnet, Likhu Tamakoshi–6

  • Mankumari Baruwal, 45, Likhu Tamakoshi–6

  • Shiva Shrestha, 34, Golanjor, Sindhuli–6

  • Man Bahadur Tamang, 60, Bhimeshwar Municipality–8, Dolakha

Two victims are yet to be identified.

Ramechhap Police Deputy Superintendent Bhola Bhatt stated that eight people, including the bus driver, were injured in the accident.

The injured are receiving treatment at Shubha Jeevan Hospital in Khurkot, Manthali Hospital, and Tamakoshi Hospital.

The bus driver has been taken into police custody, and authorities continue to search for remaining passengers.

The ill-fated bus, operated by Araniko Yatayat with registration number Province 03–01–005 Kha 9975, was traveling from Kathmandu to Okhaldhunga when it fell approximately 100 meters off the road into the Tamakoshi River at Masantar, Manthali–6, early Tuesday morning.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
