KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Chief Raju Pandey has resumed his duties from Thursday, defying a prior six-month suspension order.

This comes after the Patan High Court issued an interim order not to implement the suspension.

On Thursday morning, Pandey reported to the Metropolitan Police Headquarters in Sundhara and formally resumed his responsibilities.

The court’s decision was issued on Wednesday by a joint bench of Justices Rishi Raj Bhandari and Dillirathna Pandey.

The bench ordered a halt to the implementation of the suspension decision made by Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Chief Administrative Officer, Saroj Guragain.

Guragain had suspended Pandey on Jestha 20 (early June) citing multiple allegations and intended the suspension to last six months.

Unhappy with the decision, Pandey had filed a writ petition at the High Court on Tuesday demanding the cancellation of his suspension.

Acting on the petition, the court directed the authorities not to obstruct Pandey from returning to work.
