KATHMANDU: The Public Accounts Committee under the House of Representatives today was postponed as it failed to meet the required quorum.

According to committee secretary Ekram Giri, only 12 out of the 26 members were present.

As per the House of Representatives Rules, 2079, Rule 182, a committee’s quorum is 51 percent of its total members.

The meeting has been deferred until further notice.

The meeting had been scheduled to discuss a complaint regarding the load-carrying capacity of trucks.

The Nepal Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Association had filed the complaint, citing that existing legal provisions on load limits are not being properly implemented or regulated.

The complaint highlights that trucks operating beyond the prescribed limits under the Cargo Vehicle Load Directive, 2074, are damaging roads and bridges and increasing the risk of accidents.
