KATHMANDU: A complaint has been filed at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) alleging that Home Minister Sudhan Gurung and his team entered a police detention facility and issued threats to protesters in custody.

The petition was submitted at the NHRC central office in Pulchowk by Ajay Sodari, Prakash Bam, and Sujan Paudel, who claim they were subjected to serious human rights violations while in police custody.

According to the complaint, the trio was arrested by police from the Sohrakhutte Police Circle during a peaceful protest held on June 2 outside the Indian Embassy over border-related issues concerning Kalapani, Lipulekh, and Limpiyadhura.

The petition alleges that about 30 minutes after their detention, a group led by Gurung unlawfully entered the detention area.

The complainants claim that the group engaged in verbal abuse, psychological intimidation, and issued death threats while they were in custody.

They further allege that the incident reflects a serious abuse of power and occurred with either the complicity or negligence of police personnel on duty.

The petition has urged the NHRC to deploy a special investigation team to Sohrakhutte Police Circle, record statements from the detainees, and secure CCTV footage and visitor logs from the day of the incident.

It also calls for legal action against Home Minister Gurung and his team for alleged criminal conduct and human rights violations, and demands departmental action against police officers who allegedly allowed unauthorized access to a sensitive custody area.
