KATHMANDU: Nepal has seen above-average rainfall during the pre-monsoon period, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

Weather expert Binu Maharjan reported that rainfall up to Tuesday has already surpassed the expected seasonal average.

“So far, around 29.5% of the season’s rainfall has been recorded, compared with the usual 20% for this period,” Maharjan said.

The pre-monsoon season, defined from mid-Feb to mid-May, typically receives about 226 millimetres of rain.

By Tuesday, 77.5 millimetres had already fallen.

The department also noted that the current weather system has brought generally cloudy skies.

Temperatures in the capital, Kathmandu, and surrounding valleys have risen, with the daytime high reaching 25°C on Wednesday, compared with 22°C on Tuesday.

Maharjan added that the weather is expected to remain largely clear until Thursday evening, but rainfall is likely to return from Friday onwards.

The department has urged the public to stay alert due to the variable weather conditions.
