Police officer found dead in Kathmandu; investigation underway

KATHMANDU: A security personnel working at the Nepal Police Headquarters in Naxal was found dead at his rented residence in Buddhanagar, Kathmandu, on Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Bal Bahadur Thapa, an Assistant Head Constable, according to the Kathmandu District Police Range.

Police said Thapa was discovered unresponsive in his room earlier today. He was immediately taken to Everest Hospital in New Baneshwor by his wife, but doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Confirming the incident, SP Pawan Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Police Range, said preparations are under way to send the body for post-mortem examination. “While the circumstances suggest a possible suicide, the exact cause of death has not yet been established,” he said, adding that further investigation is ongoing.

Police have not disclosed additional details and said findings will be shared after the completion of the investigation.
