KATHMANDU: Before office hours, security personnel were heavily deployed at the Supreme Court (SC) entrance.
Security has been beefed up following the announcement that suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana will return to the Supreme Court.
On the same evening that the Parliament’s impeachment recommendation committee submitted its report stating that there are grounds and reasons for impeachment against JB Rana, JB Rana informed the Supreme Court that he will return to the regular duties of the Supreme Court.
However, the Nepal Bar and Supreme Court judges are preparing to stop him, claiming that the suspension has not been lifted, and the government is willing to assist them.
A large number of police officers have been mobilized in anticipation of a potentially tense situation when he attempts to enter the Supreme Court. High security has been implemented in the Supreme Court and Bar premises, as well as on the roads, according to Nepal Police.
Lawyers are present in the SC complex under police protection. The Nepal Bar Association has already made an official decision to deny JB Rana entry through the SC gate.
