KATHMANDU: A complaint has been lodged at the Ministry of Home Affairs seeking the cancellation of citizenship of senior Rastriya Swatantra Party leader and former Kathmandu mayor Balendra Shah.

On Friday, Yubaraj Safal of Kathmandu-31 filed the petition, claiming that Shah unilaterally changed his surname.

According to the complaint, Shah’s citizenship obtained from Mahottari on 6 Poush 2063 (B.S.) listed his surname as “Sah,” but when obtaining a copy of his citizenship after becoming Kathmandu mayor on 19 Asar 2079, he reportedly used “Shah.”

The petitioner alleges that this constitutes false information and urges authorities to annul his citizenship in accordance with the law.
