Parliament likely to reopen soon, Says Minister Gurung (video)

KATHMANDU: Communication and Information Technology Minister and government spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung has expressed confidence that the currently obstructed parliament will reopen shortly.
Speaking after the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Minister Gurung acknowledged that parliament remains blocked but expressed hope that it would resume today or tomorrow.
He noted that the opposition is demanding the formation of an investigation committee and the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
However, the government believes that the Home Minister’s response to the raised questions is sufficient and that resignations based on mere allegations are unjustified.
“The parliament is currently obstructed with two demands from the opposition — the resignation of the Home Minister and the formation of an investigation committee. Our position is that once the Home Minister addresses the questions raised, the matter will be settled. There is no concrete evidence against the Home Minister, and no investigation has been conducted. Therefore, demanding resignation solely on allegations is not appropriate. The Home Minister will respond to the opposition’s queries in parliament, and then the parliament should be reopened,” he said.
Minister Gurung also revealed that discussions have already taken place among the three major party leaders, expressing optimism that the issue will be resolved soon.
