KATHMANDU: The construction of the parapet at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Stadium has officially commenced from Tuesday.

According to Chakrabarti Kantha, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Urban Development, all works are progressing with the aim to complete the project within the current Jestha month (mid-May to mid-June).

As part of the plan to upgrade the stadium to international standards, the parapet is being built in two sections—western and eastern—designed to accommodate a total of 10,000 spectators.

The parapet construction has been divided into 12 segments, with the first segment’s concrete pouring starting today, Kantha informed.

“High-quality ‘floor hardener’ has been applied over laboratory-tested concrete. This is necessary because the stadium’s concrete surface is subject to heavy wear,” he explained. “According to the stadium’s topography, the ground levels on the western and southern sides are higher than the field, so concrete has been poured directly on the ground surface. In contrast, the eastern section’s ground is level with the field, so pillars have been erected to maintain the required slope.”

Apart from the parapet, eight floodlights will be installed to enable night matches at the stadium.

Urban Development Secretary Gopal Prasad Sigdel, who inspected the ongoing work, emphasized strict adherence to quality standards and urged that the project be completed within the stipulated timeframe.

All construction activities, including parapet completion and floodlight installation, are expected to be finalized by the end of Jestha.
