Over 7,200 disaster incidents reported nationwide since mid-April
Fire incidents accounted for the highest number, with 3,480 cases reported nationwide.
KATHMANDU: A total of 7,231 disaster-related incidents have been recorded across Nepal since mid-April (Baisakh 1), affecting 13,098 families, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
During this period, 479 people have lost their lives, while 1,800 others sustained injuries.
Fire incidents accounted for the highest number, with 3,480 cases reported nationwide.
The data also shows 321 flood incidents, 604 landslides, 442 cases of heavy rainfall, 406 lightning strikes, and 600 snakebite incidents.
Similarly, there were 279 forest fire cases, 451 windstorm incidents, 504 animal attacks, 123 cases of altitude sickness, and five avalanches.
In addition, seven earthquakes were recorded, along with two incidents each of hailstorms and boat capsizing.
Single cases of hailstorms combined with wind and cold waves were also reported.
The authority further noted that within a 24-hour period from March 24 to 25, a total of 26 disaster incidents occurred.
On a single day, 13 fire incidents were reported across nine districts, leaving 10 people injured.
Officials have urged increased preparedness and public awareness as disaster risks continue to rise across the country.
