Over 2,300 fugitives held across Nepal in a month-long police drive

KATHMANDU: In a nationwide enforcement campaign, police have arrested 2,319 individuals declared fugitives in various criminal cases during the month of Baisakh, according to the Central Police News Desk.

The coordinated operation was carried out by multiple units of Nepal Police, including the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Kathmandu Valley Police Office, and all seven provincial police offices.

Among those arrested, 12 were apprehended by the CIB, while the Kathmandu Valley Police Office detained 366 individuals.

Provincial breakdown shows 326 arrests in Koshi, 730 in Madhesh, 199 in Bagmati, 204 in Gandaki, 330 in Lumbini, 68 in Karnali, and 84 in Sudurpaschim Province.

Authorities also recovered a total of Rs 215,369,110 in fines from the arrested individuals.

Police stated that those detained were involved in a range of serious offenses, including homicide, narcotics-related crimes, rape, banking offenses, and fraud.

Many had been convicted by courts but were evading sentencing or legal custody.
