KATHMANDU: Lawmakers from the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) have strongly objected to the clarification presented by the Foreign Minister on behalf of the Prime Minister, calling it unacceptable and an attempt to justify what they described as a controversial and “nation-harming” remark.

Speaking in the House of Representatives of Federal Parliament of Nepal, MP Pramesh Hamal said the Foreign Minister’s explanation failed to protect national dignity and instead appeared to defend the Prime Minister’s statement.

He argued that the clarification was an effort to cover up the issue and questioned whether such remarks could uphold the country’s self-respect and pride.

“The explanation given by the Foreign Minister cannot be accepted. It appears to be an attempt to defend and cover up the Prime Minister’s statement. We formally reject it,” Hamal said during the session.

He further reiterated that Nepal has not encroached upon the territory of India, and demanded that the Prime Minister apologize and have the statement expunged from parliamentary records, calling it contrary to national interest.

Despite strong criticism, Hamal noted that the opposition has shifted its protest style and is now engaging in Parliament as a responsible opposition, maintaining a more flexible and constructive approach within the legislature.
