Opposition MPs including Harka continue protest in Parliament (video)
The Speaker also issued a warning, urging them to follow parliamentary rules and maintain order in the House.
KATHMANDU: Lawmakers from the opposition Shram Sanskriti Party, led by party president Hakraj Rai, staged a protest in the House of Representatives on Wednesday by encircling the well of the chamber during ongoing discussions on budget allocations under the Appropriation Bill.
The protest erupted while ministers were responding to questions raised by lawmakers on various ministry-wise budget headings. MPs from the party expressed dissatisfaction, claiming that Industry, Commerce and Supplies Minister Gauri Kumari did not properly address their concerns during the session.
Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal repeatedly urged the protesting lawmakers to respect parliamentary rules and follow official directives, warning that disorderly conduct would not be tolerated. He reminded members that obeying the Speaker’s instructions is a constitutional duty of all parliamentarians and issued a formal warning to the protesting MPs.
Despite repeated requests to return to order, MPs continued their protest, leading to a full encirclement of the House well.
The opposition parties have also been continuing protests in Parliament demanding a correction of Prime Minister Balen Shah’s recent remarks related to border issues.
