Govt to create jobs through three-tier coordination, says Ramji Yadav
He said the National Employment Promotion Programme has been prioritised to expand job opportunities domestically through close coordination among all three tiers of government.
KATHMANDU: Youth, Labour and Employment Minister Ramji Yadav has said the government is actively working to create employment opportunities within the country through coordinated efforts among federal, provincial, and local governments.
Speaking during Wednesday’s House of Representatives session on budget discussions related to his ministry, Minister Ramji Yadav addressed lawmakers’ concerns, stating that the government is strengthening policies, procedures, systems, and implementation structures to make employment promotion programmes more effective.
He said the National Employment Promotion Programme has been prioritised to expand job opportunities domestically through close coordination among all three tiers of government.
“The programme has been designed to operate through cooperation between federal, provincial, and local levels with the aim of creating employment within the country,” he said. “We are also collecting data on Nepali workers returning from abroad to understand their skills, interests, and the types of opportunities they are seeking.”
According to him, the government is focusing on utilising the skills, knowledge, and experience of returnee migrant workers to generate suitable employment opportunities within Nepal. Efforts are also underway to produce skilled human resources in sectors with growing labour market demand.
Minister Yadav added that the government is not merely expanding programmes but laying a strong institutional foundation for long-term effectiveness.
“We are not just in the phase of adding programmes; we are in the phase of building a foundation. Without clear policies, procedures, systems, and implementation structures, allocating budgets alone does not translate into spending,” he said. “Once this foundation is established, the budget will be expanded accordingly.”
He also indicated that additional budget allocations could be arranged if necessary, and reaffirmed that the government has prioritised systematic data collection on Nepalis abroad and returnees to better utilise their skills for national development.
