KATHMANDU: Residents of the Tilganga area (Block B-13) have continued a sit-in protest for the past 45 days, accusing the government of injustice during the implementation of the master plan of the Pashupati Area Development Trust.
The protestors gathered in front of the main gate of the Trust at Gaushala after their houses and sheds were demolished on Baisakh 18 and 19.
They argue that they are not squatters but legally residing citizens who have been paying taxes, and that their rights were violated during the eviction process.
Local resident Sudarshan Gautam said the affected families have already submitted relevant documents and agreements following a recent meeting with the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.
He added that the minister acknowledged the issue was acted upon without sufficient verification and had sought further documents from concerned authorities.
According to Gautam, the government side has assured that the matter will be resolved through discussions within the next 15 days.
The protestors also recalled a previous agreement signed on Asar 1, 2071 BS under the Pashupati development master plan, which promised resettlement of displaced residents in Gothatar with at least four annas of land.
However, they claim the Trust failed to implement the agreement, leaving them displaced and without proper rehabilitation.
