KATHMANDU: Public transportation services operating from Kathmandu to eastern regions of Nepal have increasingly adopted digital monitoring systems, with most buses now equipped with CCTV cameras and online ticketing facilities.

In line with the government’s plan to make GPS tracking and CCTV installation mandatory in all public vehicles, the Eastern Transport Management Pvt. Ltd. has already implemented these systems in buses departing from Kathmandu’s New Bus Park to various eastern destinations.

According to the company’s chairman, Rajan Rokka, GPS systems and CCTV cameras have been installed in 81 public buses operating under the company.

Since Shrawan 2080 BS, all buses running between Kathmandu and eastern Nepal have been brought under a single operational company for better management and service coordination.

These buses currently serve multiple destinations including Tehrathum, Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha (Khandbari), Dharan, Biratnagar, Ilam, Janakpur, Birgunj and several other locations across eastern Nepal.

Company officials also stated that the government’s transport modernization plan is being actively implemented.

They further announced that luggage tagging (“luggage tag”) systems will be introduced soon to improve passenger convenience and baggage management.

Additionally, the company has already launched an online ticketing system, making travel booking easier and more accessible for passengers traveling to eastern Nepal.
