KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has reportedly warned of a possible crackdown by the soon-to-be-formed Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) government following his defeat by nearly 50,000 votes to senior RSP leader Balendra Sah in the recent parliamentary election.

According to sources, Oli briefed a group of senior UML leaders, saying the incoming RSP-led administration might target him and other former party officials using legal cases and detention measures. “They are preparing to launch various schemes against us. We must be ready to face all circumstances,” Oli reportedly told his colleagues.

Oli also suggested that events since mid-September, including attempts to stall elections and challenges to the reinstatement of the House of Representatives, were orchestrated to create this situation. He expressed concern over what he described as the failure of the Nepali Congress and the Maoist Centre to support constitutional and democratic processes during these crises.

Observers note that activity around Oli’s residence has noticeably declined as election results unfolded. In his warnings, Oli highlighted that the RSP government might revive legal and political actions against former leaders, framing them as part of a broader geopolitical attempt to undermine parties that helped establish Nepal’s constitution and democratic framework.
