KATHMANDU:  As political momentum builds ahead of the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli is set to travel to his home district Jhapa today.

Oli will fly to Bhadrapur at 10:25 AM to file his candidacy from Jhapa Constituency No. 5.

This time, Jhapa-5 has emerged as one of the most talked-about and closely watched constituencies in national politics.

Traditionally considered Oli’s stronghold, the seat has drawn significant attention after Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) announced his intention to contest from the same constituency under the banner of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

Additionally, Ranjit Tamang of the Nepal Communist Party has also entered the race, making the contest a likely three-way showdown.

Upon reaching in Jhapa, Chair Oli is expected to closely review the election preparations across all five constituencies in the district.

He will first meet party leaders and cadres from Constituencies No. 1 and 3 in Bhadrapur to receive briefings on the ground situation.

Later, he will head to Birtamode to hold discussions with leaders overseeing Constituency No. 2, followed by a meeting in Surunga with the team managing Constituency No. 4.

Oli will then focus on strategic discussions related to his own constituency, Jhapa-5, during an extensive consultation with local leaders in Damak. As part of his visit, he is also scheduled to inspect his residence in Damak, which was damaged during the so-called “Gen Z Movement” protests in Bhadra last year. This will be his first visit to the property since the incident.
