KATHMANDU:  The Nepal Tourism Board has issued a strong clarification dismissing recent media reports claiming that the Government of Nepal has introduced new restrictions on Indian tourists entering the country.

In a press statement released on Wednesday, the Board said several media outlets and online platforms had circulated misleading claims suggesting that Indian tourists are now required to carry mandatory identification documents, that their stay in Nepal has been limited to 30 days, and that vehicles would be confiscated if the duration is exceeded. The Board firmly stated that all such reports are “false, baseless, and misleading.”

The statement clarified that no new restrictions have been imposed on the stay duration of Indian visitors and that the long-standing open-border arrangement between Nepal and India remains unchanged. It also reaffirmed that the historic people-to-people ties, cultural proximity, and tourism cooperation between the two countries continue as before.

According to the Board, a recent development involves the introduction of an online facilitation system for foreign tourists, including Indian nationals traveling via land routes in private vehicles. Developed by the Customs Department, this digital system allows travelers to obtain temporary entry permits and complete tax payments online, aiming to reduce border congestion and improve travel convenience.

The Nepal Tourism Board urged media houses, digital platforms, tourism stakeholders, and the general public to avoid spreading unverified information and to rely only on official government sources for accurate updates regarding tourism policies and travel arrangements.

Reaffirming Nepal as a safe, friendly, and welcoming destination, the Board emphasized its continued commitment to strengthening tourism cooperation and smooth cross-border mobility between Nepal and India.
