KATHMANDU: The second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) has proved a financial success for the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), which reported over Rs 9 crore in net profit.
CAN disclosed the league’s revenue and expenses during a central committee meeting on Monday.
The eight-franchise tournament saw Lumbini Lions defeat Sudurpaschim Royals by six wickets to claim the title.
According to the brief public statement, the NPL generated more than Rs 47.36 crore in total revenue, with over Rs 21.96 crore spent on organizing the event. This resulted in a gross profit of Rs 25.39 crore.
Under the revenue-sharing agreement, 50% of the net profit is distributed among the franchises, amounting to NPR 16.18 crore. After this distribution, CAN retained Rs 9.21 crore as net profit—nearly four times the net profit from the first edition, when the association earned Rs 2.46 crore. Franchises in the inaugural NPL had received NPR 3.16 crore in total.
In line with International Cricket Council (ICC) funding guidelines, CAN has also announced an annual NPR 5 million investment in the development of women’s cricket.
On infrastructure, CAN decided to request the Nepal government to extend the lease for the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur and transfer the Lower Mulpani Cricket Ground, currently managed by the National Sports Council, under CAN’s control.
CAN further announced that its annual general meeting will be held in Biratnagar on 10–11 May, during which it will approve the 2026 calendar and budget.
The tenures of district committees in 20 districts, whose four-year terms have ended, will be extended until the end of May, after which elections must be conducted.
