KATHMANDU:  The Executive Director of Nepal Oil Corporation Limited, Dr. Chandika Prasad Bhatta, has resigned from his position, stepping down on Wednesday.

According to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Bhatta formally submitted his resignation to the ministry, which will take effect from Thursday.

Ministry Information Officer and Under-Secretary Surya Prasad Chapagain confirmed the development, stating that the resignation was received the same day.

Reports indicate that Bhatta’s decision follows political pressure after Industry, Commerce and Supplies Minister Gauri Kumari Yadav reportedly asked him to step down.

Although a recent government ordinance on dismissals in public institutions did not directly include the corporation, Bhatta is said to have complied with the minister’s request.

Bhatta had been appointed to the post on 9 March, 2024 (Falgun 26, 2080 BS) by the government led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”, with a three-year tenure.
