No one will be spared from action: Home Minister Gurung
Gurung acknowledged that legal complexities sometimes limit the effectiveness of enforcement actions.
KATHMANDU: Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has said that anyone found guilty of wrongdoing will face action without exception, stressing that personal or family ties will not influence law enforcement decisions.
“I will not spare anyone who commits wrongdoing. Even if it were my own father, I would not let them go,” Gurung said, underscoring a strict stance on accountability.
He added that authorities are working to ensure legal action is taken without considering status or appearance, and that offenders are being brought under the legal framework accordingly.
However, the Home Minister expressed dissatisfaction over court decisions in cases involving VIPs, particularly referencing the release of former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli after detention. “We worked overnight with two IGPs, but the court released him. Our efforts went in vain,” he said.
Gurung acknowledged that legal complexities sometimes limit the effectiveness of enforcement actions.
He also said he is currently focusing on studying laws to ensure future arrests are backed by stronger legal grounds, preventing suspects from being released due to technical issues.
“We should be able to clearly say in the future that someone cannot be released on these legal grounds,” he added.
