KATHMANDU: Main opposition party, the Nepali Congress, has accused Prime Minister Balen Shah of being responsible for the continued obstruction of Parliament.

Speaking to reporters at the Federal Parliament premises on Tuesday, Nepali Congress Chief Whip Nishkal Rai said the controversy triggered by the Prime Minister’s remarks on a national issue had led to the ongoing deadlock in the House of Representatives.

Rai argued that Shah’s statements concerning Nepal’s nationality and territorial integrity had compelled opposition parties to unite in protest.

“We have not obstructed the House out of choice,” Rai said. “When issues of nationality and national sovereignty arise, all opposition parties stand together. However, this deadlock cannot continue indefinitely.”

The Nepali Congress lawmaker stressed that Prime Minister Shah must personally appear in Parliament to help resolve the impasse. He also called on ruling parties to facilitate the Prime Minister’s presence in the House.

“As the most responsible authority, the Prime Minister should come to Parliament and break the deadlock,” Rai stated.

Rai further demanded that Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle provide a clear explanation in Parliament regarding allegations related to tax evasion.

Noting that dialogue among political parties remains ongoing, Rai emphasized that consensus, cooperation, and continued discussions are the only viable path toward ending the parliamentary standoff.
