KATHMANDU: New Zealand cruised to an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Canada in their Group D clash of the T20 World Cup on Tuesday, powered by unbeaten half-centuries from Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips.

Canada put up a spirited fight after teenage opener Yuvraj Samra produced a sensational 110 off 65 balls, an innings studded with 11 fours and six sixes.

Captain Dilpreet Bajwa chipped in with 36 as the pair stitched together a commanding 116-run opening partnership, steering Canada to a competitive 173 for 4 in their 20 overs.

Samra’s knock also saw him become the youngest batter to score a century in T20 World Cup history.

In reply, New Zealand made light work of the chase. Ravindra anchored the innings with an unbeaten 59 off 39 deliveries, while Phillips played the aggressor with a blistering 77 not out from just 36 balls.
