KATHMANDU: A 21-year-old Nepali woman from Rukum West was rescued from forced domestic labor in Kotkhai, Himachal Pradesh, India, after being held in captivity and denied contact with her family.
The rescue was carried out by the social organization Kin India in coordination with the Nepali Embassy in Delhi and local Himachal Pradesh police. The victim’s family had reached out to the embassy’s hotline seeking assistance.
According to Kin India head Navin Joshi, the woman was first employed in an apple orchard four years ago and later forced to work in a private household without pay, while being cut off from her family. She had come to Himachal Pradesh while studying in grade 11.
Joshi confirmed that the Himachal police and local child welfare committee helped in securing her release. Legal action is being pursued against the perpetrator, and the victim is receiving medical care and psychological support before being reunited with her family.
“The necessary procedures are underway at Kotkhai police station,” said Joshi.
