KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecom, the state-owned telecom service provider, has expanded its mobile phone services to Lulang of Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality–2 in Myagdi district.

The company installed a 4G-enabled BTS (Base Transceiver Station) tower in the Khoriya area, extending mobile and internet coverage to several previously underserved locations, including the former Lulang VDC.

The newly activated service now benefits areas such as Khoriya, Dar, Muna, Lamsung, Lulang, Mareni, and Jaljala.

Local ward chairperson Akaprasad Kumai stated that the new tower addresses long-standing issues with poor signal reception from the existing tower in Mudi. “Mobile signals didn’t reach the ward office, health post, and nearby settlements like Lamsung and Mareni, forcing residents to travel to signal zones for communication,” he explained.

Although the BTS tower was installed in early February, it remained inactive due to the lack of electricity.

The service was finally launched this week after the Nepal Electricity Authority extended the central transmission line to the area.

To support the tower’s operation, local residents and the rural municipality jointly constructed a shelter to house telecom equipment.

Currently, private telecom providers, including Ncell, do not offer mobile services in the Khoriya region.
