KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have launched an investigation into the assets and income sources of three former prime ministers—Sher Bahadur Deuba, KP Sharma Oli, and Pushpa Kamal Dahal—and two former ministers, Arzu Rana Deuba and Deepak Khadka, along with their families.

The probe follows a directive from the Department of Money Laundering Investigation.

On Sunday, former Energy Minister Deepak Khadka was taken from his residence in Budhanilkantha, with authorities preparing to extend his detention through the district court.

Investigations are also underway into Arzu Rana’s brother, Bhushan Rana.

Authorities have linked the inquiry to the discovery of burnt currency notes at the homes of Deuba, Dahal, and Khadka following an arson incident on Sept 9.

The department has tasked the CIB with a detailed follow-up, bringing the former prime ministers under scrutiny.
