KATHMANDU: The Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has finalized its candidates for both constituencies in Palpa district.

Hum Bahadur Sunari Magar has been nominated from Palpa-1, while former minister Som Prasad Pandey will contest from Palpa-2.

According to NCP Palpa leader Mathura Dhakal, the party leadership made the decision following internal discussions.

Sunari, a resident of Rambha Rural Municipality–2, Phoksingkot, previously belonged to the Maoist Centre.

Meanwhile, Pandey, who has been nominated from Constituency 2, is a seasoned political figure with a long history in national politics.

He entered parliamentary politics in 2051 BS and was elected in the 2056 BS, 2070 BS, and 2074 BS elections.

However, Pandey was defeated by Maoist candidate Leela Somain in the 2064 BS Constituent Assembly election.

In the 2079 BS general election, he contested from the then CPN (Unified Socialist) but lost despite the support of the Congress–Maoist alliance.

Pandey has previously served as Minister for Industry.
