KATHMANDU: The Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has called on the government to promptly reopen the Rasuwa and Tatopani border crossings, which were blocked due to heavy rainfall and floods in mid-June.

With major festivals approaching, the closure of these border points has caused serious disruptions to trade, business, and the import-export system, prompting the Chamber to request immediate reconstruction.

According to a statement issued by the Chamber, the closures are likely to impact prices, creating shortages of essential goods such as clothing and daily necessities.

The Chamber has highlighted the issue to relevant ministries, including Foreign Affairs, Finance, Home Affairs, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Industry, Commerce and Supplies.

The statement emphasized, “With major festivals such as Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath approaching, failure to reconstruct the Rasuwa and Tatopani points on time could directly affect imports and place an additional financial burden on consumers.”

The Chamber further warned that prolonged closure of these key border points with China not only hampers foreign trade but also puts small industries and commercial establishments at risk.
