NC condemns violent attacks on party leaders during youth protests
The party stressed the importance of participating actively in discussions led by the President to restore peace, security, constitutional order, and democratic processes.
KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has strongly condemned the violent attacks on party President Sher Bahadur Deuba and other leaders, describing the incidents as deeply regrettable and unacceptable.
In a press statement today, party spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat expressed sorrow over the tragic events that occurred during the youth-led protests. “The loss of lives, including those of many young individuals and some security personnel, is deeply painful for all of us. We pay our heartfelt tribute to the deceased,” the statement read. Dr. Mahat also extended wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured and voiced serious concern over the extensive damage to public and private property during the protests.
The Nepali Congress emphasized the urgent need for dialogue with other parties committed to democracy and the Constitution.

Dr. Mahat criticized the nationwide vandalism, arson, and violent activities that took place on Tuesday, stating they went against the principles of peaceful democratic dissent. He affirmed that committed young citizens dedicated to the nation, people, and democracy would never condone such acts.
“The attacks on fundamental pillars of democracy, including the executive, legislature, and judiciary, are extremely serious. The destruction and looting of private homes, businesses, and media offices, including my own, is deeply distressing and reprehensible,” he said.
The statement also highlighted the economic repercussions of the unrest, noting that the damage to property and businesses will require years and significant investments to repair.
Amid the current political vacuum and legal uncertainty, Dr. Mahat urged that security agencies, coordinated by the President, take immediate action to restore law and order.
He reiterated that there is no alternative to lawful governance and democracy.
Dr. Mahat concluded by calling for unity and confidence among party members, stressing the need for active participation to restore and protect democratic processes.
He reaffirmed that the Nepali Congress remains the most reliable force for democracy in the country.
