KATHMANDU: Mumbai Indians produced a stunning run chase to defeat Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets in Monday’s Indian Premier League clash at Wankhede Stadium.

Chasing a daunting target of 229 runs, Mumbai reached 230/4 in just 18.4 overs, registering the highest successful run chase in their IPL history.

The foundation of the victory was laid by a brilliant 143-run opening partnership between Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton.

Rohit smashed 84 off 44 balls, while Rickelton delivered an explosive 83 from just 32 deliveries, putting Lucknow’s bowling attack under immediate pressure.

After Rohit’s dismissal, Mumbai needed only 52 runs from 36 balls, a target they chased down comfortably to end their three-match losing streak.

Earlier, batting first, Lucknow posted a strong 228/5 in 20 overs. Nicholas Pooran led the charge with a blistering 63 off 21 balls, reaching his half-century in just 16 deliveries. Mitchell Marsh contributed 44, while Aiden Markram added 31. Himmat Singh remained unbeaten on 40 off 31 balls.

However, Lucknow failed to accelerate in the final five overs, a slowdown that ultimately proved costly despite the imposing total.

For Mumbai, Corbin Bosch claimed two key wickets, including the crucial dismissal of Pooran that halted Lucknow’s momentum.

With this result, Mumbai snapped a three-game losing streak, while Lucknow slumped to their sixth consecutive defeat, remaining at the bottom of the points table.
