KATHMANDU: Shram Sanskriti Party Chair and Member of Parliament Harka Raj Rai has demanded the immediate removal of a controversial statement made by the Prime Minister from the official record of the House of Representatives, calling it “anti-national” and urging a formal correction.

Speaking during Thursday’s parliamentary session, MP Rai said the Prime Minister’s remarks had undermined the dignity of the House and insisted that the statement should be corrected in person on the parliamentary floor.

Rai also raised concerns over the long-standing plight of Bhutanese refugees in Nepal, urging the government to address their humanitarian issues.

He highlighted that many refugees, living in displacement for decades, continue to seek either safe repatriation to Bhutan or family reunification through resettlement in third countries.

“We have been continuously demanding that the Prime Minister’s statement be removed from the record, but no action has been taken. This has not enhanced the dignity of Parliament. The Prime Minister must personally correct his statement,” Rai said in the House.

He further stressed that the government must take responsibility for displaced Bhutanese citizens, either by facilitating their return or arranging opportunities for family reunification abroad.

During the same session, MP Rai also objected to the absence of the Defence Minister during discussions and criticized the government for not providing the ministry’s budget “Red Book” to lawmakers.

He questioned why the expenditure details of the Defence Ministry were not distributed to MPs and sought an official explanation through the Speaker.
