More than 17 mln Afghans receive electronic ID cards

KABUL: More than 17 million Afghan nationals have received electronic national identity cards since the program launched in May 2018, said a statement of the National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) on Monday.

“Since the beginning of the electronic ID card distribution process, a total of 17,068,000 Afghans have received their electronic national ID cards,” the statement added.

Out of the figure, 10,621,000 are men and 6,447,000 others are women, the statement further said.

Authorities earlier estimated the country’s population to be as high as 36.4 million.
