KATHMANDU: Mohan Baidya ‘Kiran’, General Secretary of the CPN (Revolutionary Maoist), is currently in stable condition, according to family sources.

He was admitted to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital on Jestha 15 after experiencing chest complications.

Doctors have confirmed that Baidya is suffering from pneumonia, which has exacerbated his pre-existing respiratory issues. He is currently receiving treatment under special observation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with visitation restricted to close family members and a few others to prevent further infection.

The medical team, led by Dr. Niraj Bam, has recommended continuing his treatment in the ICU for several more days.

Family and party sources say both sides are actively working to manage the financial costs of his care.

Following news of his illness, party members and leaders involved in the Maoist movement have expressed their best wishes on social media, describing Baidya as a “dedicated and principled leader” and wishing him a speedy recovery.

Baidya, who split from the Maoist Centre in Jestha 2069 to form the Revolutionary Maoist party, has recently been advocating a policy of “people’s revolt.”

He was unanimously elected as General Secretary during the party’s General Convention held last Mangsir. With Baidya focused on medical treatment, party responsibilities are currently being handled by CP Gajurel as acting General Secretary.
