KATHMANDU: Manchester City kept their Premier League title hopes alive with a dramatic 2–1 comeback victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, as Erling Haaland scored his first-ever goal at the historic venue.

Liverpool took the lead in the 74th minute through a stunning curling free-kick from Dominik Szoboszlai, who beat goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with a superb strike.

However, Szoboszlai’s night ended on a sour note as he was shown a red card late in the match.

City responded strongly. In the 84th minute, Bernardo Silva volleyed home from close range after meeting Haaland’s header to bring the visitors level.

Deep into injury time, Haaland converted a penalty in the third minute of stoppage time to complete the comeback and seal all three points for Pep Guardiola’s side.

A late goal by Rayan Cherki was ruled out, allowing City to hold on for a crucial victory.

The win reduces City’s gap at the top of the table to six points.

League leaders Arsenal had extended their advantage to nine points on Saturday, sitting on 56 points, but City’s victory has reignited the title race and strengthened their position in second place.

Liverpool, meanwhile, remain sixth in the standings with 39 points and are now five points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, dealing another blow to their hopes of securing a Champions League spot.
