Mahesh Bartaula urges swift action on legal practitioners Council Bill
Bartaula emphasized the need to expedite discussions and move the bill forward without extended holds in the committee stage.
KATHMANDU: Mahesh Bartaula, Chief Whip of the CPN-UML, has called for avoiding prolonged delays in the committee review of the Nepal Legal Practitioners Council (Second Amendment) Bill, 2081.
Speaking at the Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee meeting held at Singha Durbar on Monday, Bartaula emphasized the need to expedite discussions and move the bill forward without extended holds in the committee stage.
While acknowledging that discussions might extend over multiple sessions, Bartaula appealed to the committee chairperson to schedule meetings continuously, taking into account the overall circumstances, consensus among members, and the parliamentary calendar, so the bill can be finalized promptly.
He said, “It is understandable that discussions may extend over several meetings, but my humble appeal to the honorable chairperson is to set a work schedule that avoids unnecessarily prolonging the bill’s review in the committee.
Considering the situation and availability of members alongside the parliamentary schedule, I urge that meetings be called consecutively to advance the bill.”
Bartaula also urged the committee to treat the bill as a priority and proceed with the planned discussions, underscoring the importance of concluding the legislative process efficiently.
