KATHMANDU: The East–West Mahendra Highway, which had been blocked since Tuesday morning, has reopened a short while ago.

The highway was obstructed after a gas tanker overturned near Lamaha Bridge in Chandrapur Municipality–4, Rautahat district.

According to Rajendra Thapa Magar, Inspector at the District Traffic Police Office, the 21 tonnes of gas inside the tanker were safely released overnight before the vehicle was removed.

Six cranes were deployed to clear the tanker from the road.
