KATHMANDU: Independent candidate Mahabir Pun, who won the House of Representatives seat from Myagdi-1, has urged his supporters not to organize a victory rally in Beni.

In a message posted on social media, Pun requested well-wishers not to spend time or money travelling to Beni for celebrations.

He said holding victory rallies could humiliate rival candidates who lost the election.

“Please do not come to Beni spending money and time to organize a victory rally. We should not mock those who lost the election. In the coming days, we must work together with our opponents for the development of Myagdi,” Pun wrote.

He also said he does not like extravagant activities such as slogans, rallies, feasts and celebrations.

Pun suggested that supporters who wish to celebrate his victory should do so in their own villages instead.

Pun secured victory with 22,850 votes, defeating his nearest rival Harikrishna Shrestha, who received 7,919 votes.
