KATHMANDU: Director Deependra Lama has officially announced his upcoming film Munamadan Ko Breakup, promising a fresh take on rural romance in Nepali cinema.

The film will be penned by writer and critic Samipyaraj Timilsina, while noted photojournalist Shridhar Paudel takes on the role of executive producer.

The announcement marks a reunion of the creative trio—Lama, Timilsina, and Paudel—who last collaborated on the 2018 critically acclaimed film Gopi, starring Bipin Karki, Saugat Malla, Barsha Raut, and Surakshya Panta.

Actor Raj Katwal is the first confirmed cast member for the film. Known for his role in Narsingha: Avatar, Katwal expressed great enthusiasm about the new project. “This role is more refined and challenging than any I’ve taken on before. I’m working hard to present myself in a more polished way,” he said.

According to director Lama, other cast members are still under discussion and will be finalized soon. “We chose Katwal because his persona aligns perfectly with the script. We aim to cast remaining roles based on character relevance and narrative strength,” Lama noted.

The film aims to portray a distinctive rural love story with a fresh narrative flavor. Writer Timilsina emphasized that this film will offer a love story unlike anything recently seen in Nepali cinema. “At a time when pulling audiences to theaters has become extremely difficult, we’re putting in serious effort to ensure a powerful script,” he said.

Lama, known for films like Ghampani and Dukhi Aatma, plans to make Munamadan Ko Breakup a captivating cinematic experience.

The film is expected to be shot in the rural regions of Kaski district, with filming set to begin only after script and pre-production are fully refined.

“We’re in no rush,” said producer Paudel. “Our focus is on producing a high-quality film, and we’ll move to shooting only once every detail is perfect.”
