Lahan fire victim family to get new home in 2 days
The family of Madan Thapa Magar, left homeless after the incident, was provided with emergency food supplies on Monday by the Lahan Municipality.
KATHMANDU: A family in Lahan Municipality–15, Lagraha, whose house was destroyed in a fire caused by an electrical short circuit on May 13, has received immediate relief and temporary housing support from the local authorities.
The family of Madan Thapa Magar, left homeless after the incident, was provided with emergency food supplies on Monday by the Lahan Municipality.
On Tuesday, a temporary tent house was constructed for their immediate shelter with the support of the municipal police and the ward office.
Mayor Mahesh Prasad Chaudhary, who visited the affected family, pledged that a new safe house with tin sheets would be built within two days. He said necessary construction materials, including tin sheets, had already been delivered to the site.
“We were informed about the incident a bit late. As soon as we received the information, we sent a team with relief materials. In this difficult time, we will not delay further and construct a safe tin-roof house within two days using municipal police support,” Mayor Chaudhary said.
Ward Chair Tej Narayan Chaudhary of Ward No. 15 said that the tent house was arranged immediately to solve the family’s urgent shelter problem.
According to the victim, the fire broke out suddenly while no one was at home during the afternoon of May 13.
The blaze destroyed Rs 35,000 in cash, clothing, food supplies, and all household belongings. Two mango trees near the house were also damaged in the fire.
The quick response from Lahan Municipality has provided immediate relief to the affected family as reconstruction efforts begin.
