KMC sterilizes 2,083 community dogs in record drive

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has successfully sterilized 2,083 community dogs in a short period under its ongoing Community Dog Management and Animal Welfare Campaign.

Nurnidhi Neupane, chief of KMC’s Agriculture and Livestock Department, said the metropolis is regularly monitoring the campaign to ensure adherence to animal welfare standards.
“We found that the process of capturing, sterilizing, resting, and returning the dogs to their original locations is being carried out with proper care,” he said, adding that dogs are kept under observation for 24 hours after surgery.

One Dog Dies After Road Accident
While the campaign has been progressing smoothly, the department reported that one sterilized dog, which had already been returned to its community, died after being hit by a vehicle.
KMC had signed agreements with the selected organizations on Kartik 13, and mobilized them the very next day with formal work orders.
