KATHMANDU: Depositors of Karnali Development Bank staged a protest at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Monday, demanding the immediate return of their savings that have remained inaccessible for a prolonged period.
The demonstrators, representing depositors from the bank’s 19 branch offices across Banke, Bardiya, and Dang districts, gathered in the capital to voice their grievances and press authorities for action.
Protesters alleged that despite repeated appeals, they have failed to recover their deposited funds and have received little response from the concerned authorities.
They expressed frustration over what they described as a lack of effective intervention to address their concerns.
During the demonstration, participants carried placards bearing slogans such as “Punish Those Responsible for the Karnali Bank Scam,” “Return Institutional Deposits,” and “Refund Public Deposits Immediately.”
The depositors said financial irregularities within the bank had put their hard-earned savings at risk and urged regulators and the government to ensure the swift refund of their money.
They also called for accountability and legal action against those found responsible for the alleged mismanagement and irregularities.
The protesters warned that they would continue their agitation until a concrete solution is reached and their deposits are returned.
